Another Pic Grunger picture
Another picture addiction. Keep on playing with Pic Grunger. It does magical things to nice but ordinary shots, like this one of early morning light coming through our landing window. Posted via email from Marielou’s posterous | Comment »
Experimenting with Pic Grunger iPhone app
I love the effects I am getting using this app. Must work out how to achieve the same effect on full size images. Posted via email from Marielou’s posterous | Comment »

Ornamental onion
This is Nectaroscordum siculum, the ornamental onion. I knew I had it somewhere in my collection and came across it today after a friend asked at the weekend if I could identify a flower in a photograph she had taken. I couldn’t remember at all what it was called when she asked and it was pure serendipity that I found it today. It’s in my stock library thePictureKitchen here ...

Swedish Nettle Soup
A spring institution is nettle soup made with the soft tops of young nettles. I went out in red rubber gloves to pick a bowlful of these delicacies from the abundant supply in our garden, brought them in, washed them thoroughly and spun them in a salad spinner to get rid of all the little bugs and dirt that hide in their textured leaves. Picking and washing the nettles is the time consuming bit...

Fish pie
I shot this fish pie for the WI but had the forethought to ask Dagmar who did the food styling to make it with gluten free flour so I could take it home and share it with Andro for supper, Just so comforting and delicious. Posted via email from Marielou’s posterous | Comment »
Tagliatelle with seafood
This was a favourite dish before I discovered I was gluten intolerant - it just doesn’t taste the same with gluten free pasta, and most significantly the texture is all wrong. Frustrating having to photograph it and not to be able to taste it! Posted via email from Marielou’s posterous | Comment »

I don't love my Dyson!
We all seem to be required to regard the Dyson vacuum cleaner with a degree of reverence. It’s now a British design classic. Huge numbers of devotees pay a premium for these gaudily coloured beasts and we are supposed to admire their superior suction and ergonomic design. My husband wrote an article on James Dyson soon after the first machine caught the public imagination and we bought one...

Moccha mousse in a little coffee cup
I recently had an urgent request for a chocolate mousse for use in a magazine, and so trawled my archives for some pictures and came up with quite a few. This is one of my favourites - partly because the mousse itself was particularly delicious! Chocolate Mocha Mousse This rich, velvety mousse was one of the first things I learned to cook and was my party piece when my parents...
Breakfast
When I stay in the studio I treat myself to a breakfast with my favourite bacon. It’s so good it tastes wonderful just on its own and cooks up without any of the nasty white oozing protein that virtually all other bacons exude. Denhay bacon is thin, delicate crispy. It tastes as bacon did in my childhood. Posted via email from Marielou’s posterous | Comment »

Mincepies and notes on suet
Not being quite English I have a problem with the classic Christmas mince pie. Certainly the standard mincemeat mixture is far too sweet for my palate and the usual thick doughy pastry has always seemed most unenticing, and then they have always given me indigestion, which I used to put down to the rich mix of fruits but I now realise was a part of my then unidentified gluten intolerance. This...

Nordic Diet Found To Be A Healthier Choice
In the past 20 years, the Mediterranean diet has been a top choice among body conscious people. But while this diet may have benefitted a lot of people, scientists have found a new and healthier diet. The Nordic diet is the latest eating plan that could surpass the benefits provided by the famous Mediterranean diet that uses olive oil, vegetables, unrefined cereals, fish, nuts and citrus fruit.

Little Almond Cakes
I’m gluten and lactose intolerant so use a gluten free flour mix and Lactofree lactose reduced milk to make these fragrant little cakes but it’s impossible to tell that they are not made with regular ingredients. They work perfectly well however with ordinary wheat flour and milk.
● 4 oz olive oil based margarine ● 4 oz golden caster sugar ● 2 large eggs ● 1 oz ground almonds ●...
